A preliminary program is now ready. Three conference days includes an excursion to building projects, exhibitions of wood building projects by architect students, company’s production exhibitions of own components and solutions and a rich professional program with a series of sessions.
Gunnar Olofsson is in charge of the strategic work with Skog 22 (Forestry 22). The forestry sector faces great challenges concerning capacity downscaling of the wood processing industry and reduced sales of sawdust to the wood processing industry. There is a need for restructuring, especially within the wood processing industry but also within other parts the forestry sector. Olofsson has ample competence and experience from Swedish and international forestry, wood industry and research with bioenergy - and will give us an overall picture of the Nordic status and what is needed to change the negative trend.
IKEA Design Manager, Marcus Engman, is a firm believer in the company's "democratic design"ethos, mixing functionality, style and values. He believes that a great part of IKEAs success is in the fact that what we produce has the ability to mix with other styles. Engman is attending the conference to elevate on how IKEA is working with design and their attitude towards wood as a material in their products. IKEA is known for its “budget furniture” available in huge stores and is expected to keep to a Scandinavian form characterized by a minimalistic, functional design.
These are two of the speakers and more will be presented as we get nearer to the conference.
The practical host of the conference is Mark Isitt, a Swedish journalist, who has long experience in commenting on architecture and urban development and has lead other similar conferences with great success.
The conference will take place at one of Norways best conference hotels, Rica Nidelven Trondheim, 25th and 26th of September 2014.
